Matt has to be the most elusive Jar, but I almost think he enjoys "building a mystery." While there are scads of trivia and info about the other three, Matt's biography tends to leave you... umm... waiting! Other than nuclear assault tactics, I know he likes fishing and driving his boat. At least his long lost AOL homepage showed this... I knew I should have printed that out! :( He often refers to missing his family and speaks of his trips home. The first time I met Matt, I was in this crowded corner of a place called the Music Farm. I had spoken to all the Jars, but couldn't find Matt. I was about to give up and leave when I ran square into someone's stomach. (I'm a shorty) I looked straight up and there was Matt looming over me. That guy's got to be at least 6'3". I had previously "bonded" with Matt through his beautiful letters to Earthen Vessels. If you've never read them, you should. Matt makes no disguise of his uncertainties and fears. His love of Christ is peacefully transparent in his written thoughts. He can be the most mysterious Jar, but nevertheless can lay his heart out on the table for all to see. You can feel Matt's intensity through his music. From a Jars message board: "Matt doesn't sing much cause he's giving 100 percent of himself as he plays." (paraphrased) Dan once introduced Matt: "We're very fortunate to have a member who is gifted, above average...'abby-normal' (S). While most of us were basking in our youth, Matt spent his time in discipline training." So THAT'S where he learned his cappucino immitation and how to curtsy! :) Up to now, however, Matt's reputation has been untarnished, except that one slip of putting Dawn in the dishwasher! ... Dawn who? :)

Favorite quote from Matt: "I think the miracle of the grace of God and the gift of Christ is so amazing. It meets us when we feel the worst about ourselves, when we feel the best about ourselves and all the points in between. That's the gift and the promise of 'I will never leave or forsake you.' You have to deal with that in your own heart and believe that God really does meet you in all those places no matter how you feel. Feelings are not reality."

Matt's meaningful scripture: Philippians 1:21
