Charlie Lowell
a view by Libby
Charlie was the first Jar I ever met in person! Even though I'm older than Jars, I was a little hesitant in my approach. But Charlie's welcoming handshake and smile was what prompted me to talk to the others. This was before autograph lines were the style, and Jars were just milling around searching for someone to talk to! :) (just kidding!) I remember asking Charlie how he felt when he was asked for his first autograph. He smiled and said he was very humbled by it and treated it as a great privilege. After that... I was sold! Charlie has often been described as the "one with the cool hair." He has a love for Celtic music AND Starbucks Java Chip Ice Cream. Worthy of note is his past history of wearing a bandana while writing "certain" songs and siting deer cows at home on the range. :) Even before my AOL days, I heard alot of reports where Steve and Charlie shared in discussion with friends at the AOL Jars Fun Folder and joined in Friday night chatrooms, letting their hair down and further narrowing the gap between fan and band. Charlie is often credited for the name Jars of Clay. After studying 2 Corinthians 4:7 in High School, he tucked away the thought of Jars of Clay as one day the name for a band. God has blessed Charlie with the gift of clear expression to speak his heart in public... which I greatly admire. Not only has he been referred to as the "servant-peacemaker" of the group, but when compared to the Beatles, he is Paul, "the cute one". ;) Some fans have complained that Charlie is the less photographed Jar on stage, but I think his Hammond B-3 is just TOO heavy to carry up front! :)
Favorite quote from Charlie: "It's hard for us to feel alot of responsibility for what all has happened in the last couple of years or to think, 'Man we did a great job.' It's not our works or our merit. God's got us here."
Charlie's meaningful scripture: Ephesians 2: 8-10
